The Silhouette Instalift is an innovative new procedure is designed for people who have early signs of jowling and facial skin laxity, but are not yet ready for a surgical procedure. In this procedure absorbable sutures are placed under the skin in a minimally invasive 45 minute procedure using small amounts of local anesthesia. The results are those of a small cheek lift and are immediately visible. As the sutures are slowly absorbed they release a material similar to Sculptra which stimulates the growth of collagen further improving the results.
What is a Silhouette InstaLift?
The InstaLift is a non-surgical alternative to the traditional surgical cheek and upper neck lift. In contrast to the traditional facelift, in addition to immediate tightening, the InstaLift promotes long term collagen production. Advanced technology has combined absorbable sutures with novel bidirectional cones that hold the deeper tissues in place until collagen production reinforces the fixation of the tissue. The relatively painless procedure takes about 45 minutes and is performed without any incisions, using only small amounts of local anesthesia.
The Silhouette InstaLift represents a significant advance over thread lifts performed in the past. The use of bidirectional cones provides more precise control of the procedure and the use of absorbable polylactic acid threads and cones, similar to that used in Sculptra, results in prolongation of the results due to collagen formation while avoiding some of the problems that were sometimes seen with the older types of threads.
The biphasic effect of the Silhouette InstaLift can give you a more youthful look, producing smoother skin and a younger facial contour. The traditional facelift only stretches the skin to hide volume defects, but does nothing to correct the basic underlying problem of volume loss. Many facelift patients now undergo additional procedures to correct volume loss. With an InstaLift both tightening and volume loss can be improved with a single procedure with minimal discomfort and minimal downtime.
What is the Recovery Time for InstaLift?
Most people have minimal to no recovery time for this procedure. Usually there is a little tenderness over the sutures for a few days but this does not incapacitate most people. A little dimpling at the point of the suture insertion is common, but this is usually barely noticeable and disappears within a couple of weeks. Minor bruising or unusual sensation in the area is uncommon and disappears relatively quickly.
You can reduce your chances of bruising by:
- Checking with your primary care physician about the advisability of discontinuing any blood thinning medication you might be taking.
- Stopping taking any blood thinning supplements (eg fish oil) at least 2 weeks before the procedure.
- Avoiding alcohol a week before the procedure
- Choosing a skilled, experienced board certified dermatologic surgeon for your treatment.
