What to expect

We will advise you to refrain from tanning for about a month prior to treatment. During the procedure, we will use a topical anesthetic, and in some cases oral medication, for optimal comfort. Most patients tolerate the treatment well, and any lingering discomfort should dissipate within about an hour after the procedure. Uneven skin coloring can be improved.

Questions and Answers

At California Skin and Laser Center, we are proud to offer advanced solutions for improving and rejuvenating the skin. The Fraxel re:store laser addresses aging, scarred, and discolored skin without extensive down time and healing. This laser skin resurfacing procedure is highly desirable as it offers amazing results on the treated areas by stimulating collagen production.

  • Many areas of the skin can be treated
  • Patients can have treatment for fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation concerns simultaneously
  • Reduction of precancerous lesions
  • Reduced pore size and improved skin tone and texture
  • Little to no down time
  • Fast recovery
  • Minimal risks

Alternatives to Fraxel re:store

  • Intense Pulsed Light
  • CO2 and Sciton Erbium YAG resurfacing
  • Microlaserpeel
  • Fillers (Restylane, Radiesse, Juvéderm)
  • Subcision
  • Sciton or Medlite laser toning
The laser treatment works by producing thousands of small microthermal zones on the skin that penetrate deep into the dermis and stimulate the production of collagen, which in turn reduces the appearance of wrinkles and addresses uneven pigmentation of the skin. The skin heals faster with this method of treatment versus traditional laser skin resurfacing services.
Patients of all skin types can enjoy Fraxel re:store laser treatment, but those with darker skin may be at risk of developing a temporary increase in pigmentation.
We encourage patients to avoid tanning for a month prior to treatment and to enjoy the use of topical anesthetics during their service for optimum comfort. Some patients may want to take medication prior to their appointment for improved comfort levels. Treatment lasts approximately thirty minutes.
Patients will experience the sensation of a mild sunburn for a few hours, and then notice redness to their skin lasting up to a week. This is necessary for healing and dermal repair, and ensures that there is proper blood circulation during the healing time. Patients can apply makeup and shave right after the treatment, and many patients return to their normal activities the following day.
Within 24 hours, new skin will develop, and the skin will continue to become enhanced with time. Moisturizer and the use of sunscreen is important during this healing process.
The number of treatments necessary will vary from person to person, but usually three to six treatments are required. Treatments are generally monthly, but may be spaced at longer or shorter intervals.
Treatment with the Fraxel re:store laser requires the use of a topical anesthetic to make the procedure comfortable. For some individuals this can be supplemented by oral pain control medication given before the start of the procedure
Treatments are performed by our highly skilled and compassionate RNs. Dr. Bock is almost always available on the premises, or nearby.

We have found the Fraxel re:store to be the safest laser we have ever used. Infection, scarring and change in skin coloration is possible with almost any laser treatment; the Fraxel re:store, however, provides unprecedented control in laser skin rejuvenation. Risks are minimal, though the specific risks and the suitability of these procedures for any person can be determined only at the time of the consultation. All procedures have some degree of risk, although the risks of the Fraxel treatments tend, for the most part, to be minor.
