Although laser dermatology treatments are well known, they are not the only procedures utilizing the power of light energy. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a broad-spectrum light therapy used to treat acne, pigmentation problems, redness, aging skin, fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment, typically called a photo facial or photo rejuvenation has been in use for more than a decade with over two million successful treatments. We offer a number of advanced light therapies in our Stockton and Lodi offices.

Sciton BroadBand Light System [BBL]

Sciton, a leader in aesthetic medical technology, has developed a number of innovative treatment systems, including BBL. Many of our patients report that it delivers the most effective photofacial treatment. It can improve many skin imperfections, with no downtime.

Treatment usually takes 30 minutes or less, depending on the size of the area. It may cause mild discomfort, which most patients compare to the sensation of a rubber band snapping. If necessary, we will desensitize the treatment area before, or during, the procedure to ensure your comfort. Depending on the condition being treated, you may have no after effects, or a mild pinkness that fades quickly. If brown spots are removed, they will initially darken, and then fall off.

Levulan Photofacial & Superphotofacial

Light energy alone can have a significant effect on the skin, but we are always looking for better, gentler, more effective, or more versatile solutions to offer our patients. One of the great discoveries in the realm of photofacial treatments was the discovery of photosensitizers.

Levulan is formulated with delta aminolevulinic acid a compound that is naturally present in the human body. When applied topically, prior to Blu-U light therapy, it dramatically enhances the effect. Following treatment, you will notice damaged skin sloughing off, and you may feel as though you have been sunburned. However, this only lasts a few days before fresh, healthy, radiant skin is revealed. Most acne patients experience significant improvement with between one and six treatments.

The Levulan super photofacial follows the same procedure as above, except that treatment is preceded by microdermabrasion. This improves the skin uptake of Levulan, for even more dramatic improvement.
