At California Skin & Laser Center, we recommend every patient receive a full skin examination at least once a year. Although the importance of awareness and self-examination cannot be overemphasized, it takes a trained eye to spot cancers in the earliest stages.
Dr. Bock is dedicated to keeping our patients healthy and beautiful. He is always vigilant, watching for signs of skin cancer, even when treating minor rashes or cosmetic cases. With any form of cancer, early detection and prompt treatment are the keys to successful treatment. In addition to his extensive dermatologic knowledge, Dr. Bock is a trained Mohs Micrographic Surgeon.
How long has it been since you’ve had a full skin examination? If the answer is more than 12 months, please call 209-751-4292 and schedule an appointment at California Skin & Laser Center, today. That phone call could be lifesaving, or better yet, give you the peace of mind that comes with knowing you are cancer-free.
We are now able to significantly reduce the number of new skin cancers that you may develop. For years, we have been using lasers and lights to enhance the appearance of people’s skin. Several studies have now shown that people who have undergone these treatments experience a 50% reduction in new cancers in the treated areas. In biology 50% is a very significant number. The body areas most likely to develop cancer are the face and the back of the hands and arms. These are the areas that would benefit the most from these treatments. We are using the regimen that I’m using on myself. It involves two different treatments, a laser treatment and a broad-band light treatment, on the same day. There is a little pinkness and minimal swelling on the next day. These are generally not noticeable to anyone else. The current recommendation is one initial treatment, followed by a second in a month. After that, there would be a maintenance treatment every 9 months.
Skin Cancer and its treatments explaned by Dr Gerald Bock
How is skin cancer treated?
Surgery is the primary treatment for most skin cancers. There are other modalities out there like radiation, chemotherapy but the vast majority of skin cancers are treated with surgery.
What is Mohs surgery?
Mohs surgery is a type of procedure that we do for cancers that we know are at a high risk for recurring.
People who have a cancer in an area that can be dangerous, are those whom we perform Mohs surgery on.
Is Mohs surgery complicated?
With Mohs surgery, we can look at the cancer as we take it out and tell whether it looks like we have left any in or we got the whole thing out. It is a much safer procedure, but it is also more complicated.
Is Mohs surgery done at your office?
Mohs surgery is done in our office and we have technicians who come in and bring in the equipment for processing the tissue specimens so it’s all done in the office.
