Subdermal Fillers
Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra, and Juvéderm can be used as subdermal fillers.
Superficial placement of fillers
Recent advances in injection techniques have recently allowed us to inject these fillers very high in the skin and enabled us to significantly improve very superficial lines and wrinkles. One of these, the "fern pattern technique," is described in a different section. This technique is currently in wide use in Canada, but has not yet been adopted by many U.S. physicians. We have also learned how to achieve a similar effect with Juvéderm, which is thicker than Restylane and flows a bit more smoothly. There is some suggestive evidence that this superficial filler placement may last longer than the traditional deeper placement. Any additional durability of these products would be especially welcome on the lip lines, where repeated movement produces more rapid product resorption. There is little to no down time associated with this superficial product placement.
