Subcision
Subcision is a technique used to elevate depressed, saucer shaped scars. After local anesthesia, a needle with a sharp side is inserted under the scar. The needle is moved from side to side, freeing the bound-down bottom of the scar. In the process a pocket is created which fills with blood. Sometimes a filler, such as Restylane or Juvederm, is inserted into the pocket. As the blood or filler are absorbed, new collagen is deposited, resulting in a smoother skin surface. Additional surface smoothing procedures may be necessary to obtain optimal results.
