Scar Removal: Punch Grafts

Punch grafts are small skin grafts, obtained using a biopsy punch, that are used to improve pitted scarring. First the scar is removed in its entirety and then a cylinder of skin, frequently obtained from behind the ear, is inserted into the opening left by the scar removal. The grafts are allowed to heal and then, after about 6 weeks, they are sanded down to bring them level with the skin surface.
