Juvéderm Injectable Gel

California Juvéderm Treatments

From the creators of BOTOX®

Juvéderm™ is the newest of the injectable hyaluronic acid fillers approved in the United States. In many ways, Juvéderm™ resembles Restylane, but it has a higher concentration and more cross-linked hyaluronic acid than an equal volume of Restylane. Whether this will lead to increased durability of the product, or more comfortable injections, remains to be proven, though there are some people who feel that this is the case. Juvéderm™ has different flow characteristics than Restylane, and appears less likely to cause lumps than Restylane. (This is primarily an issue in the lips, but we have been able to virtually eliminate this problem by injecting Restylane through very fine needles. Juvéderm™ is too viscous to be injected through these needles.) We now have developed techniques that make the injection of fillers an almost painless experience.

Benefits

Juvéderm is a smooth filler that provides long lasting filling. It is most useful for the lips and works well in fine lines.

Alternatives

Restylane can be used anywhere Juvéderm can be used. Radiesse can be used to replace Juvéderm in replacing deep tissue loss.

Safety and Side Effects

The safety profile of Juvéderm appears to be very good and similar to Restylane, with both products showing rare temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain or tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps or bumps, bruising, itching or discoloration. Juvéderm adds welcome further diversity to our list of fillers.

Recovery Time

Usually there is no recovery time with Juvéderm. The exception is the lips, where the swelling may be noticeable for up to one week. If there is any bruising, it is usually gone within a week.

Questions and Answers

How does it work?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of many tissues, including skin. It works by adding volume to the tissue and binding water to give a younger appearance.

Who is a candidate?

Anyone with lines, wrinkles or deep tissue loss is a candidate.

What can i expect?

You will see the filling effect immediately with Juvéderm. There can be some temporary swelling that is usually not noticeable, but is visible in the lips.

Does it hurt?

In sensitive areas, such as the lips, we use nerve blocks to eliminate discomfort. We dilute our Juvéderm with lidocaine and use ice to make the procedure almost painless.

Before-treatment instructions:

You should tell Dr. Bock about all the medicines that you are taking. If possible avoid aspirin, blood thinners, Vitamin E and ibuprofen and related pain medications for about 10 days before the procedure.

After-treatment instructions:

If there is swelling, you can take Benadryl. If there is discomfort, you can use Advil or related products.

Who performs the treatments?

Only Dr. Bock injects fillers.

If you are interested in Juvéderm, what is the next step?

The nest step is to call California Skin & Laser Center at 800-500-5842 and schedule a cosmetic consultation. At that time Dr. Bock will advise you whether you are a candidate for this procedure, and what other possibilities exist for improving your appearance.
